Aldi GmbH & Co KG CDK Electronics Ltd has supplied temperature alarm & monitoring equipment into the Aldi stores for the past 8 years, providing both case and product temperature monitoring. In 1999 CDK were approached by Linde Refrigeration, a major contractor to Aldi, with a view to reviewing the current and future control requirements within the Aldi Stores. A control and monitoring proposal was drawn up and proposed to Aldi, who were very impressed with the potential of a complete control package. During the following few months CDK Electronics Ltd, working very closely with Linde Refrigeration and The Helix Services Consultancy (Consultants to Aldi) set about developing and adapting a product range to suit Aldis exact requirements. The Multiscan control and monitoring system was to sit at the heart of the system connected via a serial network to bespoke case and coldroom controls, along with pack and inverter controls. Temperature, pressure, defrost and lighting control all within the one system. Extensive logging facilities, graphing options and security passwords were added. Full bi-directional remote access was also implemented, allowing alarm diagnostics, event history and control of all settings. In addition all controls were pre-programmed with the exact operational parameters, enabling full functionality from first switch on and total settings integrity. Additional features are being added to the system as changes in legislation occur and retail requirements change, the flexibility of the system enables such improvements to be effected quickly and efficiently.
