CDK Electronics Ltd have enjoyed a close business relationship with Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC for over 10 years, with CDK supplying the control and monitoring equipment for many of their refrigeration systems, from case, coldroom and pack control to temperature alarm and monitoring. The recent introduction of the climate change levy has forced industry to take a closer look at consumption and methods of monitoring and control. Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC is no exception. Firstly they had a need to more closely monitor the power consumption, not just total consumption, but the ability to determine which areas use what amounts. CDK Electronics Ltd developed an add on to their Storescan Alarm & Monitoring Panel which allows any number of power transducers to be interfaced and readings logged. However, whilst consumption can be closely monitored and high readings investigated, this only gives an historic record, 'the horse having already bolted'. A more proactive approach was required, a means of identifying areas of higher consumption as and when they occur. The only true way to achieve this is to analyse live data. CDK Electronics Ltd and Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC then set about developing a system which not only could monitor and analyse consumption at a store, but could analyse and monitor data from all stores simultaneously. Remote Energy Monitoring, now provides a 24hour, 7 day connection to data from stores, not only energy consumption, but all case, coldroom and pack control settings, logged performance data, access to current and logged alarms and events. The data is held centrally at a server at head office, providing the ability to analyse current and historic data.
